BURBANK, CA (February 23, 2000) - Hollywood Records recording artist the Chris Perez Band won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Performance at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards held tonight in Los Angeles, CA. This distinguished award, voted on by the creative music community, recognizes the band's debut album Resurrection as the preeminent recording released in the Latin rock genre this past year. The Chris Perez Band made its debut in May 1999 with the release of their Latin Gold album Resurrection. Since their debut, the Chris Perez Band has scored an impressive track record for their first year as a recording and touring artist. Media raves, airplay at both Top 40 and Latin radio, and major spotlights by ABC, Telemundo, Univision and VH-1 thrust the band into the national limelight. As a headliner on the first ever rock en español Watcha Tour and the supporting artist for sold-out tours with Maná and the John Popper Band, the Chris Perez Band played to thousands of new fans across the U.S. A gifted musician and respected leader in the Latin music world, Chris Perez grew up in urban San Antonio in the 80's and was drawn into the world of pop-Tejano, where he landed a gig as the lead guitarist with Grammy-winning Selena y Los Dinos.
