The Merengue explosion
of Jailene with her 17 backing musicians, is cutting loose with the second
album of her career. It is entitled "Como Toda Mujer," which
also is the name of the first single.
The Many admirers of Jailene affirm
that her style is distinct. She is a star who, thanks to her incredible
appeal in Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico's incredible radio and media influence
abroad, was quickly able to expand beyond Puerto Rico and into other markets
like Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and New
York. But always, Puerto Rico serves as home.
With the release of the second
album of her career, which began only a year and a half ago, Jailene says
that her experience as a recording artist "...has been a marvelous
time for me, because I have had the possibility of participating in important
events in Puerto Rico and outside of the island."
In addition, Jailene
performed at the '96 Radio & Musica Convention where she was "discovered"
by many radio PD's announcers and journalists.
"The people's sweetheart,"
as she is know in Puerto Rico , has a relationship with the public and
the media that is very open and very friendly.
When she went to Santo Domingo
to record her latest record she told many people she was going to look
for her "second baby." The baby was baptized with the name "Como
Toda Mujer," and its second single is called "Yo lo hago Mio"(I'll
do it My Way). Among the other tracks are "Esos Hombres"(Those
Men), "Reina y Cenicienta" (Queen and Cinderella), "No siro
Para Nada Estar Sin Ti"(It's no use at all being with out You), "Como
Te Extrano"(How I miss You), "Juguete De Noche" (Nightmare
Toy), and "El Me Mintio" (He Lied to Me ), and others.
Sure that she's going to keep walking the path
to success, thanks to her explosive, yet tender style of Meringue, Jailene
is now making plans for a new promotional tour. Jailene says her name is
"a combination of names of my older siblings, Jaime and Arlene. I
am the third-born. In fact (my parents) were expecting a boy whom they
were going to call Manuel. But when they realized that it was a girl they
decided to invent a name by combining "Jai from Jaime with 'Lene'
from Arlene."
And speaking of inventions, we ask Jailene if she is
the one who suddenly invented her brand of Merengue or if Merengue had
always been inside of her.
"Merengue had already been inside of me
and inside of Puerto Rico," answers Jailene. "It's a ver tasty
rhythm from our sister country the Dominican Republic. I am very thankful
that they - the Dominicans - are proud of the work I have realized with
my music. It is double satisfaction because they have let me know that
they are very content with me. That is very touching."
