Joey Martinez is originally from Pecos, TX. Born and raised
there until he left to Alpine Tx. to attend Sul Ross State University.
Joey started singing when he was about five years old. His first public performance was for a Christmas midnight mass when he was around seven years old. "The Little Drummer Boy" was the song he sang which he did in Spanish. He also sang with the church choir. Joey started singing Tejano with a group in Pecos around five and half years ago.
Even though Joey played with a group called the Challenger Band for about 2 months he prefers to say that his first real group was with Miradas.
Back in Jr. High and High school Joey played the trumpet but hasn't touched it in about 10 yrs.
"I think what inspired me to sing were my mom and dad. I remember them always singing around the house", said Joey, who's next to the youngest out of eight brothers and sisters.
Who are Joey favorite Male artists? "I really don't have ONE favorite artist. But if I
have to name one it would be Pedro Infante. Probably
because my dad always watched his movies and listen to
his music. Of course, he played others but Pedro
sticks out in my mind. Female artist? There are so
many, I'll have to get back to you on that one.
Group? New Edition (this dates me...)"
David Lee Garza called Joey after listening to to some music he sent him. "I tried out on July 3 and got the phone call on July 4th that I was in." said Joey.
Born on March 7, Joey states his "stage" age as 25 ......
The photos shown are from his promo which was made about a year ago in San Antonio
