Elida y Avante is one of the fastest rising groups in Tejano Music. The band was awarded Gold Records on their first two releases, "Atrevete" and "Algo Entero" All of their singles have charted in the top five and the song "Lagrimas de Amor", reached number one for four weeks.
The group received the 1995 TTMA Industry Awards for "Rising Group of the Year" and "Rising Female Vocalist of the Year." Furthermore, the TTMA has nominated members of the group for individual awards, such as "Accordion Player of the Year", "Drummer of the Year" and "Bass Player of the Year", two of which the band won this year. Elida won the 1996 TTMA Award for "Rising Female Star." Once again she and the band has been nominated for the 1997 TTMA Award for "Female Entertainer of the Year" and "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Most Promising Band." Elida hosted the 1997 Pura Vida Awards, where she and the band were nominated in five categories. Elida won the 1997 and 1998 Pura Vida Awards for "Female Vocalist of the Year." Elida y Avante recently received Billboard Magazine's prestigious, "Revelacion Del Ano" award. Elida was featured in People Magazine, Latina Magazine (March 1998), and has appeared on several covers of various other Latin publications.
Elida y Avante formed in the Rio Grande Valley in 1992. Elida Reyna leads the band on vocals, backed by Cande Aguilar Jr. (Accordionist), Noel Hernandez (Bassist), Larry Villanueva (Drums), Juan Martinez Keyboards), Randy Villarreal (Guitar), and Epifanio Martinez (Percussion/Bajo Sexto).
Tejas Records released their first enhanced Cd Single, "Tu Liegaste." This retail single contains six dance mixes from producers who have produced re-mixes for Madonna, Gloria Estefan, No Mercy, etc ... This Cd can be played in your computer and contains bios, pictures, videos, and excerpts of all of their songs from "Algo Entero."
The band has been performing throughout the country this year. They have been one of the most requested live artists in 1997, touring non-stop to excited audiences ftom all over the world. Their new CD is a mixture of many styles of Latin Music. It is a very traditional sounding record that has both US and Mexico appeal.
