(Woodland Hills, CA) Jose Behar, President & CEO of Univision Music Group (UMG) announced today the signing of Jennifer Peña to a multi-album contract to include albums in Spanish and English. Jennifer joins the growing roster of Latin music artists to sign with the new music label started last June by Univision Communications Inc.
Jennifer, who started singing professionally at the age of eleven (11), hit the Latin music scene in 1996 with a debut album titled "Dulzura" that introduced the talented teenager from Corpus Christi to Latin music fans throughout the U.S. and Mexico. She has earned the respect and admiration of fans and industry colleagues with her innovative sound, hard work and professional stage presence. She has won several Music Awards in the "Entertainer of the Year" and "Vocalist of the Year" categories. In addition to garnering a Grammy nomination in 2000, she won a Billboard Latin Music Award that same year for Best Tejano Album, and the Furia Musical Award for Mejor Cantante Tejana del Aņo.
"We are thrilled and honored that Jennifer has selected Univision Music as her new home for her professional career," stated Jose Behar upon signing Jennifer's contract. "She has all of the qualities of a superstar," added Behar, "Jennifer has the talent, experience, and youthful energy that will take her to new heights in her musical career."

Behar added that Jennifer has been selected to record the theme song for the upcoming Copa Mundial/World Cup that will take place during May and June in Korea and Japan. The Copa Mundial will be televised by Univision, Telefutura and Galavision in the United States. The song, "Vamos Al Mundial" was written and composed by award-winning producer Rudy Perez. "Vamos Al Mundial" will introduce Jennifer to a larger audience that will embrace the youthful energy in her voice and performances," according to Behar.
Jennifer's first album with UMG is scheduled for release in May 2002.
