Hollywood Records released an album of music from “Crazy/Beautiful,” the upcoming
Touchstone Pictures teen drama starring Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez. Reflecting the film’s bi-
cultural theme, the Hollywood Records soundtrack album features an eclectic mix of rock, alternative,
pop/rock en espanol and old school Latin hip-hop. Artists singing in English and Spanish on the album
include Seven Mary Three, Grammy-winning Latin group La Ley, Fastball, Emiliana Torrini, the Dandy
Warhols and others. The Crazy/Beautiful soundtrack arrived in stores June 26, 2001, coinciding with the
film’s nationwide release on June 29th.
The soundtrack’s first English single, Seven Mary Three’s “Wait,” is already storming rock radio, coming in as the #1 Most Added record at the format its first two weeks! “Wait” is currently #13 on the Mainstream Rock Charts and #26 on Modern Rock Chart. The video for “Wait” was directed by “Crazy/Beautiful” director John Stockwell, and features film principals Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez. The album’s lead Spanish single is La Ley’s “Siempre (Every Time),” due at both rock and Spanish- language radio in June. Written by lead singer Beto Cuevas specifically for the motion picture, this track was produced by ace rock production duo The Dust Brothers and is only available on the Hollywood Records soundtrack. The clip for “Siempre (Every Time)” has also been shot in both Spanish and English versions, with award-winning director Gustavo Garzon behind the camera and a cameo appearance from Michael (Dust Brother) Simpson.
Artists and tracks included on the Crazy/Beautiful soundtrack album include:
Directed by John Stockwell from a screenplay by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi, “Crazy/Beautiful” tells the story of two L.A. high schoolers from opposite ends of the social spectrum. Nicole Oakley (Kirsten Dunst), the troubled daughter of a wealthy congressman, attends public school in the upscale community of Pacific Palisades. As an act of defiance, she makes a play for Carlos Nuñez (Jay Hernandez), a determined, straight-A student who endures a two-hour bus ride each morning from East L.A. to attend the prestigious school in the suburbs. While friends and family prophesy doom for their relationship, Nicole’s flirtation develops into true romance. However, her self-destructive tendencies threaten Carlos ambitions, leading to a climactic confrontation. ### For more information, review copies of Crazy/Beautiful or album artwork, please contact Cary Prince at Hollywood Records (818.560.5925 I cary.prince~disney.com), or Diana Baron at D.Baron Media Relations (310.573.1984 / diana@dbaronmedia.com). |
