HOUSTON -- Grammy award-winning artist La Mafia, an undisputed leader in the Latin music industry leader since 1991, has just received word that they are once again nominated in several significant categories at the upcoming Premio Lo Nuestro Awards to be held in Miami on Thursday, May 8.
Universally regarded as the most prestigious recognition ceremony held annually to honor artists involved in the Latin music recording industry, Premio Lo Nuestro is televised throughout the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America on the Univision Network.
In addition, Premio Lo Nuestro was the first industry award ceremony to recognize a group with origins in the Tejano genre when it nominated La Mafia in the Regional Mexican category for "Album of the Year" in 1991 for Enter the Future. Since then La Mafia has been nominated each year, winning in 1992 for best "Group of the Year" and "Song of the Year" for Como Me Duele Amor.
Tying with Selena in 1993 for "Album of the Year" was a significant and emotional moment because it was during that year's televised broadcast that Selena publicly thanked La Mafia for opening the doors at an international level for Tejano music and its artists, something rarely done by artists at this level.
In 1994 , La Mafia was awarded a Premio Lo Nuestro in the Regional Mexican category for "Album of the Year" - Ahora y Siempre and another for "Song of the Year" - Me Estoy Enamorando. In 1995, La Mafia was recognized as "Group of the Year" in the Latin Pop category. And in 1996, La Mafia tied with Mexican super-group Los Bukis for "Group of the Year" in the Mexican Regional division.
This year, La Mafia is nominated in the Mexican Regional category for "Album of the Year" - Un Millon de Rosas, "Group of the Year" and "Song of the Year" - Un Millon de Rosas.
Currently being mastered at their own Houston Sound Studio, the new La Mafia CD is due to drop on May 29.
