La Mafia Sweeps Music Awards in Mexico City |
|
MEXICO, D.F.- Before a crowd of thousands in Mexico City's elite National
Auditorium, Grammy-winning La Mafia stepped forward Wednesday night last week
(Nov. 26) to receive yet another match set of bronzed and burnished Furia
Musical Award statues.
While the National Auditorium, located in this city's posh Polanco district, resonated with the sounds of music and the glitter of celebration, La Mafia took its place among most popular groups of the day. For the second year in a row, the Houston-based band scored a sweep of the Tejano categories during the Annual Furia Musical Awards. Nominated alongside Limite and Bobby Pulido, La Mafia took top honors last night, winning "Best Group" and "Best Album" for their most recent release, En Tus Manos. "We want to thank the fans for their support," said La Mafia lead vocalist Oscar De la Rosa. "It's an honor to be here among the leading artists in our industry. Above all, we'd would like to express our gratitude God and thank our families for their patience and love." According to Blanca Martinez, publisher and editor at Furia Musical, the most widely circulated Spanish-language music magazine in the U.S. and Mexico, ballots were printed in the publication and returned by subscribers and newstand readers for tabulation by magazine staff. La Mafia flew directly to Chicago a day after the Mexico City awards presentation where they were scheduled to headline a major concert for 15,000 people at the International Amphitheater on Saturday before returning home on Sunday to prepare for a historic first-time ever South American tour, taking their brand of international Tejano to Argentina and Paraguay.
