HOUSTON - Over the next two weeks, Sony/Sony Discos act La Mafia, riding the crest of a second consecutive Grammy win, brings its unique blend of international power pop, techno-tejano, electrified cumbia and roots ranchera to Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas and Saltillo, Coahuila before a swing through Acapulco to close the "Festival Acapulco '98," the annual week long-concert event that spotlights a who's who from the international music community. Slated to stop in Acapulco on Sunday, May 17th, La Mafia has appeared there among luminaries such as Julio Iglesias, Sting, Luis Miguel, Vicente Fernandez, Carolina de Monaco and Roxette - to name a few - on four separate occasions to date.

From Acapulco, La Mafia flies to Mazatlan to perform at the "Miss Mexico Beauty Pageant," where they will serenade the contestants vying for the 1998 "Senorita Mexico" title. The group will be on hand to help crown the woman who is to represent Mexico in the "Miss Universe" pageant in a special program which will be held on May 22nd at the famed Teatro Peralta and broadcast through the Telemundo Network on May 24th.

On Saturday, May 23rd, La Mafia swings through Monterrey, Nuevo Leon for an arena concert at the "Auditorio Coca-Cola" before a triumphant return home to headline a Memorial Day Festival at the Pasadena Fairgrounds on a bill that includes 14 of the biggest bands in Tejano with an expected attendance of over 25,000.

Not content to finish there, La Mafia will be airlifted to Sky Park in Corpus Christi, Texas for the annual Sky Park Jam, closing a show that features several bands drawing an audience of at least 15,000 yearly. Currently, the band is touring in support of the Grammy-winning En Tus Manos CD with the two singles, "Para Siempre Contigo" and "Solo." A greatest hits collection was launched in April and producer Mando Lichtenberger, Jr. has begun putting the final touches on a brand new La Mafia disc, scheduled for release this summer.
