Hello everyone...My name is Megan Marie Leyva. I’m seventeen years
old. I was born in Croswell, Michigan. Ever since I was young I’ve always
loved music, and have been singing since I was about five years old. Music
has always been a big part of my life, If I’m not singing to it, I’m listening to
it! I guess you could say I inherited my musical talent from my father’s side
of the family. Tejano music is one of my favorite types of music, and that’s
why I love singing and performing it. One particular artist that inspired me
personally would definitely have to be Selena because she opened the doors
for so many other Tejano female entertainers.
My career as a Tejano singer started out in late 1999 when I recorded
my first CD demo in Corpus Christ, Texas at the age of thirteen with
Hacienda Recording Studios. It was my first time ever in a recording
studio, and I still remember being so very nervous. It was a great learning
experience for me, and I definitely learned a great deal from it. In the
following year 2000 I recorded my second CD demo in Eastpointe,
Michigan. It was definitely easier the second time around. With a lot of
hard work and determination I recorded and released a ten-song album
with Tejas Records Melody Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. This could NOT
have been done without the support of my beautiful family who has
supported me since day one! The name of the album is “Dime” and was
produced by Sunny Sauceda (Grupo Vida) and Dee Burleson (La Franz).
The album was released in late July 2001.
I worked very hard in making presentations on TV, radio, newspaper,
and magazine interviews. Some included performances in Market Square
in San Antonio, Texas for Cinco de Mayo Celebration 2001, just before the
album came out. I was totally amazed by the audiences’ response to me and
my music...considering they had never heard of me, or my music before.
Followed by the performances in Texas...I continued to promote the album
in Michigan. I performed at Hart Plaza in Detroit for the Fiesta de
Verano (2001), Weddings, Benefits, and Mexicantown (Detroit).
One of my most honorable performances and high points in my career
was in Lansing, Michigan for the 7th Annual Cesar E. Chavez
Commemorative Dinner (2002). I was then chosen to sing the National
Anthem. The dinner featured Edward James Olmos (Selena, Mi Familia) as
the guest speaker! I was very excited to meet such a respected Hollywood
actor, and it’s a day that I will never forget. Sharing the stage with Jimmy
Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, Hugo Guerrero, Frijoles Romanticos, Iman,
Cha Cha Jimenez y los Chachos, and Alma Tejana as something else that I
am very proud of as well.
In addition I also had the incredible honor of presenting the ‘Male
Entertainer of the Year’ award to Jimmy Gonzales (Jimmy Gonzalez y
Grupo Mazz) at the 22nd annual Tejano Music Awards with Jonny
Martinez. I also had an awesome time performing at the 2002 Fan Fair the
day before the awards in San Antonio, TX. I’m also very pleased to say that
I was nominated in the top twelve for the ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’
Award (at the 22nd annual TMA's). So thank you so much to those of you
that voted ... just being nominated means very much to me! I’m currently
looking forward to many of my upcoming scheduled performances.
Along with all of the performances and promoting of the first album, I
was also working on the recording of my new album with HACIENDA
RECORDS of Corpus Cbristi, Texas. And with months of hard work ... I am
proud to release the album “LA AMISTAD”~. It was such an amazing
experience for me, and I hope you all love the music as much as I do! Now
that the album is out, I will put just as much work (if not more work) into
promoting it, as I did the first album...and I hope to see you along the way!
Performing is and always has been one of my favorite things to do. It
gives me a chance to express myself through song and to share the talent god
has blessed me with... with so many people. My future goals are that people
get to know and like my music. And also that god will continue to bless me
with a successful career, and the courage to never give up on my dreams. I
also hope to inspire others never to give up on their dreams! Muchas gracias
y nos vemos muy pronto ... Con mucbo amor ...
