You may remember that they won their first TMA at the XVth Annual Tejano Music Awards for Mire Amigo which won the Conjunto Traditional category. Since then, Discos MM is proud to report that The Homies have released another album spawning the hit Dos Cosas on Tejano Radio all over Texas, as well as the award winning Joe's Special #10. They have also just finished putting the final touches on their latest studio effort which has yet to be titled.
Last September, The Hometown Boys were honored by their hometown of Lubbock, Texas when they were inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame. As the first Hispanic inductees, they join the ranks of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Bob Wills, Tanya Tucker, Mac Davis, and Waylon Jennings among a select few other notable musicians, actors, and artists. The West Texas Walk of Fame is located in Buddy Holly Plaza in Lubbock.
Unfortunately, while the crowds approval of the award was thunderous, The Hometown Boys themselves were not there to witness it. Max Silva, President of Discos MM and Musica Moderna Management, The Homies' record label and management company, was accompanied by his son, Max Jr. to accept the award. While Max Sr. accepted the award on behalf of The Hometown Boys and thanked the fans and Fono Visa (Discos MM's distributor), the younger Silva apologized to the fans and explained the bands absense saying, "We're sorry the Hometown Boys aren't here tonight, but they're out doing what they love more than anything, playing for the best fans in the world- Tejano Music fans."
The Hometown Boys would like to thank everyone who has supported them and allowed the success they enjoy; Tejano Radio, record stores, and most of all Tejano fans. Rickey Martinez, vocalist and eldest brother summed if up when told of the news, "We want to let everyone know how much this recognition means to us. Thanks to everyone. Especially, we want to thank fans of Tejano music. You make this possible. You're the reason we're here. Gracias a Dios, garcias a todos. Un beso y un abrazo. We love you."

Nominated in the Latin music area, Category 52, "Best Mexican American/Tejano Performance" for their 1996 Sony Discos release, Un Millon de Rosas, La Mafia was one of five groups chosen from among some 150 finalists. As Grammy-nominees, members of La Mafia traveled to New York where they took their place among the world's foremost musical artists.
Nominated in 1995 for their album Vida in the Latin Pop category and again in 1996 for Exitos en Vivo in the Regional Mexican category, La Mafia will return to Houston where their hometown fans have already gotten wind of the "buzz."
"In Spanish we have a saying, la tercera es la vencida, which is like saying the third time's a charm. It's what we've worked so hard for all these years. And I give thanks to God and all of our peers in the music industry who've made this possible," said an elated Oscar De La Rosa from New York City.
The current single, Te Deseo lo Mejor, from the aforementioned Grammy
award-winning album has begun charting in several major Texas markets. For more

Houston, Texas, February 11, 1997. 12:57p: Discos
MM announced today the next in line of great talent from Houston's
premier Tejano Label. The Tejano label that produces The Hometown
Boys. Los Dos Gilbertos, Annette Y Axxion and Los Pekadorez, is
ready to introduce the newest of the Discos MM family.
Discos MM, along with FonoVisa
- Tejano, is both pleased and proud to introduce The YoYo's to
Tejano music. This conjunto consists of some familiar faces as
well as some newcomers, but all are talented and ready to take
Texas by storm. With their debut album, Desde Alla Del Cielo.
The YoYo's are sure to make a great many fans wherever Tejano
is played and enjoyed. In fact, the title track the from the album
is already enjoying advance airplay on Houston's Super Tejano
108 FM as well as other key Tejano markets and is being heard
as far away as New Mexico and Colorado.
Recorded at Houston's Legendary
SugarHill Studios. Desde Alla Del Cielo is the result of
finding classic songs that suit the group, as well as writing
new songs, and playing all of them with a signature YoYo's sound.
YoYo Guzman plays Bajo Sexto and sings lead while Ruben Loredo
plays accordion and sings one of the closest and most complementary
seconds in Tejano music. This dynamic duo registers a one-two
punch with the crowd as bajo and accordion trade off the lead
in an exciting game of musical tag.
While Tejano fans are used
to the accordion taking the lead and giving accents to the musical
lines, most are familiar with the bajo only as a rhythm instrument,
with a few notable exceptions. The YoYo's smash this preconception
with bajo playing nimble enough to take the lead and make the
listener take notice.
Following the Conjunto-Tejano
style made standard fare on Tejano radio everywhere by label-mates
The Hometown Boys, The YoYo's center vocals around one voice,
YoYo Guzman and add accents to certain lines with Ruben Loredos
experience harmony. According to Discos MM president Max Silva,
"The sound created when these guys [YoYo and Ruben] sing
together is amazing. You have to hear it to believe it."
The debut album, Desde Alle Del Cielo, is due out the first week of March from Discos MM and FonoVisa Tejano.

Members of La Mafia were saddened to learn of Cornelio Reyna's passing. Due to complications resulting from an ulcer, Reyna--the legendary border region musician and prolific international composer--died at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 1997.
"We are all very sad to know he's gone," said La Mafia's Oscar De La Rosa. "I was fortunate to discovered his music through my parents when I was little. My father was a big Los Relampagos fan. We're going to miss him and his music very much."
In tribute to one of their musical heros La Mafia recorded numerous Reyna authored compostions, among them "Si Tu Supieras," on their 1986 release, "Me Cai de la Nube" on 1989's, Xplosiv, "Lagrimas de Mi Barrio," on Enter the Future and "Pedazo de Cari^Vo" on the Con Tanto Amor album. To demonstrate their appreciation for his musical genius, La Mafia invited Reyna to tour with the band through the U.S. and Mexico in 1988 and 1989.
La Mafia expresses their most heartfelt condolences to the surviving members of the Reyna family.
Sinceramente,
Los de La Mafia...
Cornelio's legacy lives on!
Now I need your help!
Please visit my web page and specifically the following link:
http://shell.idt.net/~westcot9/selena.html
Here's how I need your help.
I am at a handicap in that I do not speak Spanish and have little resources in the Hispanic community.
I have found that Stern's broadcaster in San Diego, California is actually using transmission towers in Tiajuana which may be illegal since the station portrays that they are broadcasting in the US. The radio station call letters are XTRA.
I am currently working with the Federal Communications Commission to determine ownership, location, etc., however I need assistance from the Mexican government in order to shut this broadcaster down.
Any assistance you may be able to provide regarding this station, the transmitter in Mexico or any other material relative to this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
